“When this finally happens, we’ll all look back and say man, it started today, in 2017," Lewis said, referring to the breaking of the 2-hour mark. That, to me, is a huge problem.įor those lucky enough to be on the “other side”, we have to turn around, stick a hand out, and help them hop over that barrier.“Today was history," former world record sprinter Carl Lewis said after the event in northern Italy. Whatever it could be, plenty don’t think they are good enough to start their own business. This massive barrier to entry has been put up around the world of entrepreneurship because people who aren’t entrepreneurs yet think they are missing something. While yes, there are plenty of founders out there that have found themselves falling into those categories above, I would argue the vast majority don’t fall into those categories. Either insanely smart, well-connected, wealthy, hard-working, or whatever combination of those you can put together. Unfortunately, there is this idea from the outside looking in that these founders are god-like. Their pure ignorance and naivety to the situation ahead of them. There has always been something that has stuck out to me when it comes to the founders, or the protagonists, of these startup stories: I got my degree in entrepreneurship, and I would safely say I’m a nerd for studying startups and founders, especially due to the countless hours of How I Built This with Guy Raz & Wisdom from The Top - thank you, Guy Raz. I first started with a custom furniture company, then started a real estate firm, and have recently launched a nonprofit. In some capacity, I have been running a business of my own since 2017.
